The initiative aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for patients with respiratory and cardiac conditions.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur has introduced Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) and Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) estimation in its outpatient department (OPD).
The initiative aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for patients with respiratory and cardiac conditions.
Prof Sajal De, Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, stated, “CPET is a specialized, non-invasive test that evaluates the combined function of the heart, lungs, and muscles during exercise. It helps assess unexplained exertional breathlessness, determine exercise capacity, and guide treatment for various pulmonary and cardiac conditions.”
He further explained the significance of the FeNO test in respiratory care.
“FeNO is a non-invasive measurement of nitric oxide in exhaled breath, primarily used in asthma diagnosis and management. It helps optimize medication dosages, monitor treatment adherence, and assess airway inflammation.”
Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Raipur, said, “The introduction of CPET and FeNO strengthens AIIMS Raipur’s diagnostic capabilities, allowing for more precise evaluation and management of respiratory and cardiac conditions.”
Prof De led the acquisition and implementation of these facilities, with contributions from Dr Ajay Behera and Dr Dibakar Sahu, Additional Professors in the department.
The new diagnostic services are expected to enhance patient care, improve disease management, and contribute to ongoing medical research at AIIMS Raipur.
