AIIMS Raipur Completes 100 Robotic Surgeries in Four Months
It also aims to provide a structured platform for surgeon training and academic development. AIIMS Raipur is the first government hospital in Central India to offer robotic-assisted surgery.
AIIMS Raipur has completed 100 robotic-assisted surgeries within four months of launching its robotic surgery programme, marking a significant milestone in advanced surgical care in Central India.
Since the programme was introduced in August 2025, the institute has performed a wide range of complex procedures using robotic technology.
These include nephrectomy, cystectomy, hemicolectomy, prostatectomy, pyeloplasty, hernia repairs, gastrectomy and hysterectomy. The increasing number of procedures reflects growing clinical adoption and expanding surgical capabilities at the institute.
The robotic surgery programme was launched to improve access to minimally invasive procedures for patients in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states. It also aims to provide a structured platform for surgeon training and academic development. AIIMS Raipur is the first government hospital in Central India to offer robotic-assisted surgery.
According to the institute, the use of robotic technology has resulted in improved patient outcomes. These include smaller incisions, reduced pain and blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery. The institute also said the technology has improved operating efficiency and helped reduce waiting times, particularly for general surgery cases.
The adoption of robotics has also led to faster surgical performance. The institute stated that prostate surgeries are now being completed in 154 to 170 minutes, compared to a global average of around 200 minutes.
AIIMS Raipur said the achievement reflects the strengthening of its robotic surgery ecosystem and its growing role as a regional hub for advanced surgical care.
