AIIMS Patna Secures Major MedTech Funding to Launch Innovation Hub for Healthcare Startups

The dedicated incubation centre will focus on supporting early-stage MedTech start-ups, medical device innovation and digital health solutions that address real clinical needs.

AIIMS Patna has secured significant MedTech funding to establish a dedicated incubation centre aimed at accelerating healthcare innovation in eastern India. The initiative will support startups, foster medical device development and strengthen the integration of clinical research with technology.

The funding has been provided by Blockchain for Impact, a non-profit organisation that backs high-impact innovation projects across India. The new MedTech centre is expected to strengthen eastern India’s participation in the broader healthcare innovation landscape.

The Letter of Intent was received by Dr Sanjay Pandey, Dean of Research at AIIMS Patna, along with Dr Sudeep Kumar from the Department of Orthopaedics and Dr Mousumi Saha, Chief Executive of the AIIMS Patna Incubation and Innovation Council.

Dr Sudeep Kumar will serve as the principal investigator for the project, while Dr Mousumi Saha will lead the MedTech Incubation Centre and oversee its strategy, partnerships and operations.

The centre will focus on supporting early-stage MedTech start-ups, medical device innovation and digital health solutions that address real clinical needs. It will provide shared laboratory infrastructure, mentoring from clinicians and engineers, regulatory advisory support and business development guidance.

By enabling collaboration between doctors, researchers, technologists and entrepreneurs, AIIMS Patna aims to reduce the time taken for new medical technologies to reach patients.

Officials believe that strengthening the MedTech ecosystem at AIIMS Patna will not only create opportunities for start-ups but also improve access to safe, effective and cost-efficient healthcare technologies.

For patients, this could mean faster availability of locally developed devices and digital tools tailored to Indian healthcare settings.
