AIIMS Delhi at Forefront of Clinical Research, Patient Care & Pioneering Surgeries: Union Health Minister Nadda
According to the minister, over ₹2,800 crore has been invested in infrastructure and development at AIIMS Delhi over the past 11 years.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that AIIMS Delhi has remained at the forefront of clinical research, patient care, pioneering surgeries, and medical education over the years.
He made the remarks while attending the 51st Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS Delhi in the presence of Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan.
“Over the years AIIMS, Delhi has remained at the forefront of pathbreaking clinical research, pioneering surgeries, high-quality patientcare and medical education, consistently bagging top rank in NIRF rankings. Under the visionary leadership of the Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, Government is committed to strengthen modern medical facilities and quality medical education,” JP Nadda stated.
Addressing graduating students, the Union Health Minister congratulated them on their achievements and urged them to contribute towards strengthening healthcare in the country.
“I congratulate all the graduating students on their achievement and urge them to serve society with dedication and contribute towards strengthening healthcare in the nation,” he said.
Highlighting public investment in medical education, he said, “As I often say at convocations, primary and secondary education may be a birthright, but professional education is a privilege supported by society.”
He further added, “Nearly ₹35 lakh is spent annually per student in a government medical college, reflecting society's immense investment in shaping skilled doctors. Therefore, it becomes the responsibility of every medical graduate to give back to society with dedication and commitment, and contribute towards strengthening healthcare in the right direction.”
JP Nadda also spoke about the expansion of AIIMS institutions and medical colleges in the country. “From having only one AlIMS Delhi since the 1960s, India expanded to seven AlIMS under the leadership of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and now to 23 AlIMS and 16 new medical colleges under Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, reflecting the Government's strong commitment to medical education and healthcare expansion,” he stated.
According to the minister, over ₹2,800 crore has been invested in infrastructure and development at AIIMS Delhi over the past 11 years. He highlighted developments including the Mother and Child Care Block, new OPD Block, Burns and Plastic Surgery Block, hostels, National Centre for Ageing, and National Cancer Institute.
“AlIMS Delhi is not just a medical institution, but a prestigious brand in healthcare. It has established itself as a pioneer in medical education, patient care, and research,” he said.
The minister also noted that AIIMS Delhi currently has over 900 extramural and 150 intramural research projects underway, reflecting the institute’s focus on research and scientific advancement.
