He highlighted that leveraging AI to simplify and disseminate health information can empower patients, enhance engagement with healthcare systems, and lead to improved health outcomes.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming patient care and health communication, with AIIMS Delhi investing over INR 300 Cr in digital infrastructure to ensure its benefits reach patients, doctors, and researchers, said the institute's Director, Dr M Srinivas.

"By integrating AI, we can improve efficiency, reduce delays, and enable world-class research," Dr Srinivas stated at a recent event held at AIIMS.

He highlighted that leveraging AI to simplify and disseminate health information can empower patients, enhance engagement with healthcare systems, and lead to improved health outcomes.

Experts at the event, including leaders in healthcare, technology, and policy, discussed how AI is bridging gaps in health communication by making information more accessible, reliable, and patient-centric.

Dr Kavita Narayan, Senior Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, emphasized the role of technology in strengthening health systems. "AI can play a vital role in making healthcare more accurate, compassionate, and equitable. To truly make a difference, we must integrate technology thoughtfully and ensure collaboration between policymakers, technologists, and healthcare providers," she said.

An example of AI-driven innovation shared at the event was Humeta, a custom-trained AI model introduced by Daleep Singh Manhas, Co-Founder & CEO of Healthpresso.

"Healthcare is a sensitive field where credibility is paramount. Humeta is trained on over a million data points from trusted medical sources like *The Lancet* and *PubMed*, ensuring that the information it generates is both accurate and up-to-date," Manhas explained.

He also addressed the accessibility gap in medical content, noting that 63% of people struggle to comprehend complex medical information.

"With Humeta, we simplify complex medical concepts into digestible and credible formats—text, visuals, and interactive tools—ensuring patients are empowered with reliable information they can trust," he added.

While AI holds vast potential, experts cautioned against overdependence on technology at the cost of human connection. Dr KP Kochhar, Head of the Physiology Department at AIIMS, stressed the importance of empathy in healthcare.

"While AI can enhance precision and efficiency, we must preserve the human touch in healthcare. Compassion and technology must work together to create systems that prioritise the well-being of patients," Dr Kochhar remarked.

The discussions at AIIMS underscored AI's pivotal role in transforming health communication, addressing accessibility and trust challenges, and empowering patients with knowledge. The event concluded with a call for the responsible and ethical integration of AI in healthcare, urging collaboration between policymakers, technologists, and healthcare providers.

As AI continues to advance, experts agree its thoughtful application can foster a future of inclusive, reliable, and patient-centric healthcare communication, bridging gaps in health awareness and education for a healthier society.
