Adani Group Lays Foundation of INR 4,000 Cr Adani Arogya Mandir in Kolkata, Pledges 1 Lakh Cr Investment in WB

Of the planned 2,000 beds, 1,000 will be allocated to economically weaker sections eligible under state and central government health insurance schemes, according to the group.

The Adani Group has entered the West Bengal healthcare sector with a proposed 2,000-bed hospital in New Town, Kolkata, involving an estimated investment of INR 4000 crore.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari recently laid the foundation stone for the Adani Arogya Mandir project at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub, New Town, Kolkata.

The proposed facility will be developed by Adani Foundation as a not-for-profit institution, aimed at building a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for Eastern India and beyond combing advanced Academic Medical Centre and research facility.

Commenting on the new initiative, Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Minister of West Bengal, said, “Mr Adani, we look forward to your presence to rebuild Bengal. The final vision is not just a hospital campus; it will be a fully integrated healthcare city. Nowhere in India is there a hospital of this high standard. The hospital will give a big boost to medical tourism. This is historic, meaningful and an auspicious day for us. Viksit Bharat 2047 can happen only if Bengal develops.”

The proposed facility is expected to provide healthcare services to over 200,000 inpatients and more than 2 million outpatients annually and generate about 10,000 jobs.

Spread across 51.75 acres, the Adani Arogya Mandir is designed as a multi-speciality hospital, alongside step-down and transitional care facilities.

The comprehensive ecosystem is expected to feature Meditel and Vishram Gruh, providing accommodation for relatives of patients receiving care at the hospital.

The Adani Group also stated the project will include provisions for patients from economically weaker sections.

Of the planned 2,000 beds, 1,000 will be allocated to economically weaker sections eligible under state and central government health insurance schemes, according to the group.

The Adani Arogya Mandir campus will also feature a medical college, with an annual intake of 150 undergraduates, over 100 postgraduates and more than 40 super-specialists.

Additionally, it will include a College of Nursing and an institution for allied healthcare and paramedical education aimed at building a multidisciplinary ecosystem for the next generation of doctors, nurses, technicians and allied healthcare professionals.

The broader campus ecosystem will also provide residential facilities for the healthcare professionals and their families.

In its first phase, the multi-speciality hospital will focus on cancer care, providing advanced tertiary and highly specialised healthcare services.

Further, the facility will include a research ecosystem encompassing genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical trials, molecular and other applied biomedical sciences.

The hospital seeks to focus on translating scientific discoveries into improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

The institution also plans to collaborate with international partners to co-create new knowledge, technologies, clinical pathways and intellectual property, bringing global scientific expertise and capabilities into an Indian research environment.

It seeks to address India’s unique healthcare priorities while producing scientific solutions that benefit the entire world.

Speaking on the development, Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group, said, “The Adani Arogya Mandir will be a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds, with a thousand beds catering to economically weaker sections of society, eligible under State and Central health insurance schemes.”

Furthermore, the Adani Foundation also partnered with Mayo Clinic Global Consulting in the United States and Singapore's SingHealth to bring global expertise in clinical care, academic medicine, digital health, quality, workforce development and innovation.

The investment is planned to establish a healthcare and academic institution in Kolkata, with a subsequent Phase-II to include Centres of Excellence across various specialties and super-specialties.

According to the Adani Foundation, the integrated Agrogya Mandir healthcare facility is expected to improve access to advanced care in the region and potentially reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for specialised treatment.

Beyond healthcare, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani also announced plans to invest more than INR 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035 across sectors including ports, logistics, power generation, power transmission and distribution, roads, bridges, green cement, and hyperscale data centres.
