One of Abbott's latest advancements in India is the AVEIR VR pacemaker, designed for patients experiencing slow heart rhythms.
US-based healthcare and medical device company Abbott Laboratories is enhancing its focus on improving access to advanced health solutions and technologies for Indian patients.
Ambati Venu, Vice President of Abbott's Indian subsidiary, Abbott India, highlighted the company's commitment to bringing innovative medical solutions to the country.
One of Abbott's latest advancements in India is the AVEIR VR pacemaker, designed for patients experiencing slow heart rhythms.
This device is the world's only leadless pacemaker with a unique mapping capability that helps assess correct positioning before placement.
Unlike traditional pacemakers, which require a chest incision, the AVEIR VR pacemaker is implanted through a minimally invasive, catheter-based procedure via the groin.
Given the high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias in India, this technology is expected to enhance patient outcomes by offering a less invasive and more efficient treatment option.
The device also has the longest projected battery life among leadless pacemakers, further improving long-term patient care.
Abbott India is also advancing treatment options for chronic diseases with biosimilars, medicines similar to original biologics that offer a more affordable alternative for long-term therapy.
The company has introduced seven biosimilars in India in therapeutic areas such as cancer, bone health, and cardiovascular care.
"These are advanced remedies made from living organisms, and their affordability makes them a viable solution for managing chronic conditions over extended periods," Venu stated.
Abbott is leveraging digital innovation to enhance healthcare delivery in India. Through its diverse portfolio, the company aims to foster collaboration between healthcare providers, patients, and medical professionals.
Abbott's approach integrates consumer education, early diagnosis, innovative treatment pathways, connected care devices, and medication adherence solutions to improve overall patient care.
