Aarthi Scans Introduces India’s First Helium-Free 1.5T MRI in BLR

The installation marks a shift towards sustainable medical imaging by eliminating the need for regular helium refills.

Aarthi Scans and Labs has launched India’s first helium-free 1.5 Tesla MRI system from Siemens Healthineers at its newly opened center in Whitefield, Bengaluru.

The installation marks a shift towards sustainable medical imaging by eliminating the need for regular helium refills.

The new system, Siemens Healthineers Magnetom Flow Plus, uses just 0.7 litres of helium in a fully sealed, zero-loss design, significantly reducing reliance on the non-renewable gas. Traditional MRI machines consume thousands of litres of liquid helium, which is becoming increasingly scarce and costly. The sealed system also ensures no helium emissions into the atmosphere.

According to the company, the development enhances environmental responsibility while maintaining patient care standards. The technology offers diagnostic centers a pathway to long-term operational efficiency without compromising imaging quality.

Founded in 1988 by V Govindarajan, Aarthi Scans and Labs operates as India’s largest integrated diagnostics provider. The network includes over 70 MRI scanners, 71 CT scanners, and 20 processing labs, serving more than 8,000 patients daily across cities including Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.

The Whitefield Center’s installation aligns with the company’s focus on expanding access to advanced diagnostic solutions. The Magnetom Flow Plus is positioned as both patient-friendly and environmentally conscious, reflecting broader efforts in the healthcare sector to adopt sustainable practices.
