5C Network, BPL Medical Technologies Launch AI-Powered Digital X-Ray Platform ‘BPL Cortex’

The launch marks the first instance in India where 5C Network’s Bionic AI suite has been integrated as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) solution within a digital radiography system.

5C Network and BPL Medical Technologies have announced the launch of BPL Cortex, an AI-powered digital X-ray solution that embeds artificial intelligence directly into X-ray device consoles.

The launch marks the first instance in India where 5C Network’s Bionic AI suite has been integrated as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) solution within a digital radiography system.

BPL Cortex is designed to transform standard digital X-ray machines into intelligent diagnostic hubs capable of generating preliminary radiology findings in under 60 seconds. The solution integrates 5C Network’s proprietary Bionic Vision algorithms directly into BPL Medical Technologies’ flagship digital radiography systems, eliminating the need for external software or cloud-based analysis during initial interpretation.

The platform is positioned to support faster diagnostic workflows by providing structured AI-generated insights immediately after image acquisition. According to the companies, the system aims to reduce turnaround time for radiology reporting and assist clinicians in prioritizing cases that require urgent attention.

BPL Cortex introduces several AI-driven capabilities intended to assist radiologists and clinicians. These include automated detection and characterization of more than 200 thoracic pathologies, such as pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and fractures. The system also generates an automated draft radiology pre-report with structured “Observation” and “Impression” sections, allowing radiologists to review, edit, and finalize reports more efficiently.

Additional features include configurable pathology thresholds, enabling qualified users to adjust AI sensitivity to manage false positives and false negatives based on clinical preference. The platform also allows the insertion of key images highlighting AI-identified abnormalities directly into final radiology reports, supporting clearer clinical communication.

Commenting on the launch, Kalyan Sivasailam, Founder and CEO of 5C Network, said, “By embedding Bionic AI at the OEM level, we are removing the friction between image acquisition and diagnosis. This is especially critical in India, where the ratio of radiologists to patients is severely skewed.”

Guruswamy K, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, said the platform extends AI-driven diagnostics across both portable and fixed X-ray systems, including deployments in resource-limited and remote settings.
