Tripura Strengthens Healthcare with AIIMS Telemedicine Link & GNRC Partnership

Chief Minister Manik Saha said the telemedicine link is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare services and infrastructure at GBP Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College.

The Tripura government has linked the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, through telemedicine to improve medical services in the state.

Chief Minister Manik Saha said the telemedicine link is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare services and infrastructure at GBP Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College.

The initiative is expected to support patient care by enabling consultations and guidance from specialists at AIIMS New Delhi.

"We have previously signed an MoU with AIIMS, New Delhi, to improve healthcare services at GBP hospital. Following their recommendations, we plan to increase the number of ICU beds from 156 to 326. Additionally, GBP hospital is now directly linked to AIIMS, New Delhi, via telemedicine to offer better medical services to our patients," he said.

The Chief Minister also announced that the state government has entered into a partnership with Guwahati Neurological Research Centre to establish a super speciality hospital in Hapania in the West Tripura district.

"We have formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GNRC, a prominent medical institution based in Guwahati, to utilize the vacant land of Tripura Jute Mills Ltd for this project. A team from our department has already visited GNRC to assess their infrastructure and available facilities," he informed the media.

As part of ongoing upgrades at GBP Hospital, a 16 bed dedicated ICU for patients with severe respiratory conditions and a fully equipped ICU in the trauma centre were inaugurated on Thursday.

The Chief Minister also said that the state Cabinet has discussed the proposal to establish a medical university that would oversee medical colleges and institutions in Tripura, with the aim of reducing referral cases by strengthening existing medical facilities.

Tripura currently has three medical colleges offering 450 MBBS seats and 119 postgraduate courses.

Earlier, the government had signed an agreement with Srija Hospitals and Research Institute based in Imphal to set up a super specialty hospital and medical college in RK Nagar in the same district.
