PLI Payouts Cross INR 21,534 Cr Across 12 Sectors; Healthcare, Pharma, Medtech Among Key Beneficiaries

As of March 2025, the PLI schemes have attracted INR 1.76 lakh Cr in investments, driving INR 16.5 lakh Cr worth of production and sales, and generating over INR 12 lakh direct and indirect jobs.

The Commerce and Industry Ministry has recently announced that the government has disbursed INR 21,534 Cr in incentives under its Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme across 12 sectors including healthcare, pharmaceutical, medtech, among others.

The flagship scheme, introduced in 2021 with an outlay of INR 1.97 lakh Cr, aims to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependency.

The sectors receiving incentives include Large-Scale Electronics Manufacturing, IT Hardware, Bulk Drugs, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, Telecom, Food Processing, White Goods, Automobiles, Specialty Steel, Textiles, and Drones.

“Cumulative incentive amount of ₹21,534 crore has been disbursed under PLI schemes for 12 sectors,” the ministry said in a statement.

At a review meeting held on June 25, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called on ministries to draft a roadmap for the next five years, targeting both fresh investments and disbursements, while focusing on globally competitive sectors and developing skilled manpower.

As of March 2025, the PLI schemes have attracted INR 1.76 lakh Cr in investments, driving INR 16.5 lakh Cr worth of production and sales, and generating over INR 12 lakh direct and indirect jobs.

Pharma, Medtech Deliver Strong Numbers

In the pharma sector, the PLI initiative resulted in sales worth INR 2.66 lakh Cr over three years, including INR 1.70 lakh Cr from exports. Domestic value addition in the sector reached 83.70% by March 2025, underscoring growing local manufacturing strength.

The scheme has also helped turn India into a net exporter of bulk drugs. From a trade deficit of INR 1,930 Cr in 2021-22, India posted INR 2,280 Cr in bulk drug exports in the latest fiscal.

Medical devices, one of the newer but fast-growing PLI segments, was listed among the 12 beneficiaries of incentive disbursements.
