Mount Sinai & OpenEvidence to Provide Evidence-Based Knowledge within EMR

This partnership will integrate OpenEvidence directly into the EHR system used at Mount Sinai, enabling clinicians to access on-demand evidence and clinical insights seamlessly.

Mount Sinai Health System, one of the largest academic medical systems in New York and nationwide, has announced a significant collaboration with OpenEvidence, a leading AI-powered medical search and clinical decision-support platform.

This partnership will integrate OpenEvidence directly into the electronic health record (EHR) system used at Mount Sinai, enabling clinicians to access on-demand evidence and clinical insights seamlessly.

This collaboration marks the first enterprise-scale deployment of OpenEvidence, which will benefit the entire clinical care team, including physicians, registered nurses, and pharmacists.

“Our partnership with OpenEvidence is a vital step in democratizing access to the latest clinical evidence for every member of the Mount Sinai care team. We are committed to equipping our clinicians with intuitive, AI-powered tools that reduce the cognitive burden of information retrieval and allow them to focus on what matters most, the patient,” said Nicholas Gavin, Vice President, Chief Clinical Innovation Officer of Mount Sinai Health System.

By providing access to trusted, evidence-based answers, the initiative aims to enhance the quality of patient care and support healthcare professionals in their decision-making processes.

With OpenEvidence, Mount Sinai clinical staff will have the ability to pose medical questions in natural language and receive immediate, accurate responses derived from peer-reviewed literature and clinical guidelines.

This functionality will be integrated within the existing Epic workflow, ensuring that healthcare professionals can obtain critical information efficiently during their shifts.

Recognizing that clinicians encounter numerous clinical inquiries throughout their work, this collaboration underscores the importance of equitable access to information for all members of the care team.

By facilitating this access, Mount Sinai aims to empower each professional involved in patient care to make well-informed decisions.

The Mount Sinai Health System includes seven hospitals and the Icahn School of Medicine, which features a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing.

The system is a pioneer in the realm of artificial intelligence in healthcare, being among the first academic medical organizations in the U.S. to establish a dedicated department focused on AI, known as the Windreich Department of AI and Human Health.

Additionally, they have recently inaugurated the Hamilton and Amabel James Center for Artificial Intelligence and Human Health on their Manhattan campus.

“Mount Sinai is an elite institution that demands elite technology. The collaboration with OpenEvidence sets a new standard of evidence-based care by providing access to our world class AI to all clinicians of one of the greatest academic medical systems in the world” said Daniel Nadler, CEO and Founder of OpenEvidence. “This agreement is our first to expand access to the entire care team, including all Mount Sinai nurses and pharmacists. This is the new baseline for what a modern hospital looks like.”
