Manipal Hospitals to Acquire Sahyadri Hospitals in INR 6,300 Cr Deal, Expands Western India Presence

The transaction has added 11 hospitals across Maharashtra to the healthcare provider's network, taking its total to 49 hospitals with nearly 12,000 beds across the country.
Manipal Hospitals has announced the acquisition of Sahyadri Hospitals in an estimated INR 6,300 crore deal, significantly expanding its footprint in western India.
The transaction has added 11 hospitals across Maharashtra to the healthcare provider's network, taking its total to 49 hospitals with nearly 12,000 beds across the country.
Under the agreement, Manipal Hospitals will acquire Sahyadri Hospitals from Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, which had acquired a majority stake in the Pune-headquartered hospital chain in 2022.
Sahyadri Hospitals is among Maharashtra's largest private healthcare providers, operating 11 hospitals with more than 1,400 beds across Pune, Nashik, Ahilya Nagar and Karad.
The acquisition substantially strengthens Manipal Hospitals' presence in Maharashtra, one of India's largest healthcare markets.
By integrating Sahyadri Hospitals into its network, the company is expected to enhance access to tertiary and quaternary healthcare services while expanding its reach across key urban and regional centres in western India.
Commenting on the acquisition, Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) Chairman Ranjan Pai said, "With this expansion, Manipal Hospitals will have a network of approximately 12,000 beds nationwide, solidifying our position as one of the largest hospital chains in India."
The expanded scale is also expected to reinforce the company's market position as it prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO), while enabling greater investments in specialised care, digital health capabilities and integrated healthcare delivery.
Backed by Singapore-based investment firm Temasek, Manipal Hospitals has steadily grown through a series of acquisitions over the past few years.
The transaction received approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) earlier in September 2025, clearing the regulatory requirement for the acquisition to proceed.
