Maharashtra Approves INR 3,708 Cr Fund for Medical Colleges Upgrade & Medical Services, Boost

According to an official release, the funding will be designated for newly established government medical colleges in Wardha, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Ahilyanagar.

The Maharashtra cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a landmark project aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare services across the state, with financial backing of Rs 3,708 crore from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The initiative, titled “Strengthening Tertiary Health Care Delivery, Medical Education System, and Nursing System in Maharashtra,” will focus on enhancing infrastructure and equipping medical and nursing colleges, as well as affiliated hospitals, with state-of-the-art facilities.

According to an official release, the funding will be designated for newly established government medical colleges in Wardha, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Ahilyanagar.

In addition, several nursing colleges will receive upgrades, including those at GT Hospital and St. George’s Hospital in Mumbai, as well as in Dhule, Solapur, Ambajogai, Akola, IGMC Nagpur, Ratnagiri, Palghar, and Dharashiv. New nursing colleges will also be constructed in Baramati, Sangli (Miraj), and Kolhapur.

Advanced medical equipment will be provided to government medical colleges in various districts, including Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Hingoli, Jalna, Nashik, Parbhani, Satara, and Wardha.

The project also includes provisions for human resource development in hospital management and administration under the Indo-Japan Academic Exchange Programme. Officials stated that the primary goal of the initiative is to ensure affordable medical care for the citizens of Maharashtra.
