Kerala Brings 1,001 Medical Institutions under Its Statewide e-Health System
Advance tokens are available via the e-Health portal or the MeHealth app, a shift that has helped reduce long waiting times in busy facilities.
Kerala’s health department has crossed a major digital milestone by integrating 1,001 medical institutions into the state’s e-Health project.
The network now includes 19 medical college institutions, 33 district and general hospitals, 87 taluk hospitals, 77 community health centres, 554 family health centres, 99 urban family health centres, 15 specialty hospitals, 3 public health laboratories, and 114 other health facilities.
So far, more than 2.63 crore people have secured permanent UHID registrations through the e-Health system.
Another 6.73 crore individuals have accessed medical care using temporary registrations, while 16.85 lakh patients have been admitted through the digital platform. The health department said these numbers reflect strong public adoption across the state.
Health Minister Veena George said digital technology has been effectively implemented in the health sector, citing recent upgrades such as digital payment options, online OP ticketing, the MeHealth app, and Scan and Book facilities. She said these tools have enabled smoother and faster patient services.
Patients can now book OP tickets in advance, and those requiring follow-up care can take advance tokens directly from the hospital. Advance tokens are available via the e-Health portal or the MeHealth app, a shift that has helped reduce long waiting times in busy facilities.
District-level adoption shows wide coverage: Thiruvananthapuram has onboarded 150 institutions, followed by Ernakulam with 100, Malappuram with 106, Thrissur with 99, and Kozhikode with 89. Other districts such as Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasaragod have also integrated a significant number of facilities into the system.
