India Leads Global AI Health Adoption, With 85% Consumers Using Digital Tools
AI health usage is largely concentrated in chatbots, 33% of respondents, and wearable devices, 19%.
India has taken the lead globally in AI health adoption, with 85 per cent of consumers already using AI-powered tools in their personal health routines, placing India significantly ahead of major markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
The insights come from a study by Boston Consulting Group titled “Consumers Are Ready for AI-Enabled Health Care. Health Systems Need to Be, Too,” based on responses from more than 13,000 individuals across 15 countries.
While nearly 60 per cent of global respondents reported using AI health tools, India’s 85% adoption rate stands well above the United States (50%), the United Kingdom (43%), and Japan (34%).
This surge in AI health usage aligns with India’s rapid digital expansion, supported by increasing smartphone penetration, affordable data access, and the rise of health-tech platforms. Over the past few years, initiatives such as telemedicine services and digital health records have helped familiarise users with technology-driven care, paving the way for AI integration into everyday health management.
The report indicates that consumers are not looking to replace doctors but instead prefer a hybrid AI health model where technology enhances clinical decision-making.
This preference is particularly evident in areas such as interpreting diagnostic reports and supporting chronic disease management, where AI can improve efficiency and accessibility.
Younger populations are playing a key role in accelerating this trend. Around 78% of Gen Z and 71% of Millennials reported actively using AI health tools, reflecting a generational shift toward digital-first healthcare engagement.

“While current use is concentrated in chatbots (33%) and wearables (19%), there is a clear expectation for agentic AI that can book appointments, manage referrals, and flag drug interactions,” the report noted.
The report also noted that there is a clear expectation for “agentic AI,” which is expected to streamline patient journeys by automating routine processes and enabling more proactive care.
