Through this partnership, ESIC beneficiaries can now avail themselves of secondary and tertiary medical care at more than 30,000 AB-PMJAY-empanelled hospitals.
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has partnered with Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) to extend comprehensive healthcare services to over 14.43 Cr beneficiaries and their families.
This strategic convergence, initiated under the guidance of Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, marks a significant step towards improving healthcare access and equity across India.
Through this partnership, ESIC beneficiaries can now avail themselves of secondary and tertiary medical care at more than 30,000 AB-PMJAY-empanelled hospitals, including charitable institutions slated to join the network.
Notably, there will be no financial ceiling on treatment costs, ensuring beneficiaries receive quality care without monetary barriers.
The Ministry of Labour & Employment highlighted this initiative’s potential to transform healthcare delivery during a review meeting on November 26, 2024, chaired by Sumita Dawra, Secretary of Labour & Employment.
Ashok Kumar Singh, Director General of ESIC, underscored the enhanced access to quality healthcare this collaboration brings to ESIC beneficiaries.
Strengthening ESIC's Existing Healthcare Framework
ESIC’s robust healthcare infrastructure, comprising 165 hospitals, 1,590 dispensaries, 105 Dispensary-cum-Branch Offices (DCBOs), and around 2,900 private impaneled hospitals, will remain operational.
The convergence with AB-PMJAY will complement these services by filling gaps in coverage and extending access to previously underserved areas.
Over the past decade, ESIC has significantly expanded its coverage, now spanning 687 of India’s 788 districts, compared to just 393 districts in 2014.
The partnership with AB-PMJAY aims to extend these benefits to the remaining districts, bridging healthcare disparities nationwide.
This collaboration aligns with India’s broader goals of advancing social security and ensuring affordable, quality medical care for workers and their dependents.
By leveraging AB-PMJAY’s extensive network, the initiative seeks to address healthcare inequities and empower beneficiaries with better health outcomes.
AB-PMJAY, recognized as one of the world’s largest health insurance schemes, has been instrumental in providing free medical services to economically disadvantaged families.
With over 30,000 impaneled hospitals nationwide, the scheme strengthens India’s healthcare infrastructure and underscores the government’s commitment to accessible, affordable care for all.
