DDMM Heart Institute Becomes First in West India to Adopt AI-Powered Cardiac Ultrasound

The Acuson Origin ultrasound system is powered by artificial intelligence and features real-time cardiac view recognition, an industry-first capability to improve diagnostic accuracy.
Nadiad-based Dharmsinh Desai Memorial Methodist Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (DDMM Heart Institute) has introduced an advanced AI-enabled cardiac ultrasound system at its center.
With the deployment of Siemens Healthineers’ Acuson Origin ultrasound system, the hospital has become the first in western India to install this real-time cardiac view recognition technology.
The new system reduces dependence on traditional electrocardiograms (ECGs) during echocardiography, improving patient comfort and streamlining cardiac imaging workflows.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the most significant contributor to non-communicable disease (NCD)-related deaths in India. WHO data from 2016 showed that NCDs accounted for 63% of all deaths in India, with CVDs responsible for 27% of these fatalities.
Despite being a significant public health challenge, cardiovascular care in India is often hindered by limited access, resulting in low detection and treatment rates.
Commenting on the installation, Dr Sanjeeth Peter, Director and Chief Cardiac Surgeon at DDMM Heart Institute, said, “With this cutting-edge technology, we are further empowering our team to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions with unparalleled precision and speed, ensuring the highest level of care for our patients. We are grateful for the generous support of Kushal Desai and Chaitanya Desai of APAR Industries, ensuring we have state-of-the-art equipment to carry forward our mission."
The Acuson Origin ultrasound system is powered by artificial intelligence and features real-time cardiac view recognition, an industry-first capability to improve diagnostic accuracy.
The system supports advanced imaging through 2D and 4D HeartAI, enabling automated contouring and quantification of all four cardiac chambers, without ECG data.
The platform is designed to support a wide range of cardiovascular applications, from diagnostic and structural heart procedures to vascular, electrophysiological, and paediatric cardiac care.
Sanjay David, Head of Ultrasound, Zone ASEAN & India at Siemens Healthineers, noted, "After this new addition, DDMM Heart Institute is enabling thousands of patients in and around Nadiad to access world-class cardiac care, improving their quality of life and transforming the landscape of cardiovascular treatment in Gujarat.”
Run by a trust, DDMM Heart Institute is a leading center for advanced cardiovascular procedures, offering invasive cardiac care, emergency angioplasty, and beating-heart surgeries with arterial grafts.
