DBT & BIRAC Launch 14 Novel Biotech Products

This strategic move is part of a broader effort to boost the flagship initiatives of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’ for the biotech sector. It is expected to attract participation from over 30 countries, 500 exhibitors, 5000 delegates, and 1000 startups.

In a momentous stride for biotech innovation, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) have launched 14 new biotech-based products.

These products have been developed by startups and entrepreneurs across verticals including healthcare, diagnostics, medical devices, agriculture, industrial biotechnology,

The 14 novel product include Liraglutide biosimilar for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus in India, Fibroplug by Fibroheal Woundcare to arrest bleeding quickly in accidental, surgical and field injuries, CHI-1-Chemically defined serum free medium and feed by HiMedia Laboratories, DermaDice a fully portable surgical device, among others.

The list also includes the world's first integrated, automated & close loop platform for manufacturing of vaccines and viral vectors, CellBRx-IST, India’s first in class medical device for circulating tumour cells (CTC) detection test OncoDiscover launched by Actorius Innovations and Research.

Further, a BioSampler to enable diagnostic accessibility in remote and rural settings, biobubble bedsheets which are medically treated for children, a reconstructed melanoma model for precision predictive therapies, a single buffer system to isolate DNA and gel purification and PCR clean up combo kit, were also unveiled at the event.

The launch of 14 innovative biotech products represent the latest advancements in biotechnology and demonstrate the potential of this field to transform lives and contribute to the economy.

For instance, the Karnataka government launched a revised Biotech Policy to lead global clinical trials and genomic innovation. The state's renewed biotech policy aims to position Karnataka as the next global hub for clinical trials and a leader in genomics. Notably, the policy highlights an advanced genome editing technique known as "crack-in-creation," garnering international attention for its biological breakthrough.
