Center Urges Andhra Pradesh to Adopt PPP Model for Healthcare Expansion

The Ministry suggested implementing PPP projects in rural and semi-urban areas, with a focus on nuclear medicine, mobile medical units, radiology services and cancer day care centers.

The Center has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to adopt a public-private partnership model to modernize its healthcare system and expand service delivery across the state.

In a letter addressed to State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, the Ministry of Health said collaboration with the private sector is the fastest way to bridge gaps in medical demand and improve access to healthcare services.

“The Centre urged Andhra Pradesh to extensively adopt the PPP model to accelerate healthcare expansion and improve availability, quality, and efficiency of services,” an official release said on Wednesday.

The Ministry suggested implementing PPP projects in rural and semi-urban areas, with a focus on nuclear medicine, mobile medical units, dental clinics, radiology services and cancer day care centers.

It proposed engaging private partners for a period ranging between five and ten years to support service delivery and infrastructure development.

The Centre noted that nuclear medicine facilities for cancer and neurological care remain inadequate in smaller towns and called for expansion of PET CT, SPECT and radiotherapy services.

The Union government also flagged shortages at community health centres and stressed the urgent need to strengthen primary-level dental services across the state.

On cancer care, the Ministry said the PPP model is suitable for setting up day care centres, with a target of achieving nationwide coverage by 2027-28. It added that fourteen cancer day care centres have already been sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh.
