The collaboration seeks to leverage advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, bio-printing and medical device engineering to address emerging public health challenges.

In a move aimed at integrating engineering with medical sciences, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly undertake research and development in healthcare.

The collaboration seeks to leverage advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, bio-printing and medical device engineering to address emerging public health challenges, Prof Raj Kishore Singh of BRD Medical College said.

The MoU was signed by AKTU Vice-Chancellor Prof JP Pandey and BRD Medical College Principal Prof Ram Kumar Jaiswal in the presence of Prof Raj Kishore Singh, who is the nodal officer for MRU, CTU, AI-Health and Innovation Cell at BRD Medical College.

Unlike conventional academic collaborations, the agreement lays out a 90-day roadmap to initiate high-impact projects in healthcare research and innovation.

Key focus areas under the partnership include bio-printing and stem cell-based product development for chronic disease management, AI-driven tools for mental health assessment and suicide prevention among students, and rapid design and clinical validation of medical devices aligned with ISO 14155:2020 standards.

The collaboration will also introduce a PhD programme in pharmacotherapeutics for five research scholars, drawing on the combined facilities of BRD Pharmacy College and the Multidisciplinary Research Unit.

In addition, the MoU provides for joint hackathons, faculty development programmes, student exchange initiatives and collaborative internships, aimed at building a strong health technology ecosystem.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both institutions, including AKTU Finance Officer Keshav Singh and Dean RDIC Prof Bhavesh Kumar Chauhan.
