Samsung R&D Noida, IIT Madras Partner on AI and HealthTech Research

This partnership aims to support sponsored research projects, consultancy, technology licensing, training, facility development, and student fellowships.

Samsung R&D Institute, Noida (SRI-N), and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) have entered a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and development in AI for Indian languages, HealthTech, and Generative AI.

This partnership aims to support sponsored research projects, consultancy, technology licensing, training, facility development, and student fellowships.

Kyungyun Roo, Managing Director of SRI-N, highlighted the collaboration’s intent to “co-create meaningful, inclusive, and future-ready solutions,” emphasizing enhancing AI capabilities in Indian regional languages to overcome language barriers. He added that the partnership will also focus on “co-development of emerging technology and enhancement of skill sets.”

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, described the alliance as a platform to “sponsor revolutionary research and technological development through effective utilization of AI technology.” He stressed the importance of bridging theoretical knowledge and practical industry solutions to “mitigate risks and address uncertainty” in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

This agreement reinforces Samsung’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ initiatives and strengthens its existing network of collaborations with premier Indian institutes such as IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, and IIT Ropar. SRI-Noida plans to sponsor R&D projects to be carried out at IIT Madras, Samsung’s facilities, or jointly at both locations.
