As per the hospital authorities, the issue of sepsis could become the next big national health problem. If it is not handled correctly, it is said to be bigger than heart attacks.

Mumbai's Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital has launched Sepsis Cart, '˜Golden Hour' in order to spread awareness about sepsis.

This new initiative aims to provide timely and effective treatment to sepsis patients with the help of a Sepsis cart within the first hour of diagnosis, which is said to be critical for their survival and recovery.

To facilitate this initiative, the Mumbai hospital has developed a sepsis cart, which is a mobile unit equipped with the necessary tools and drugs to manage sepsis cases across any ward or department of the hospital.

The Sepsis Cart will include necessary preliminary requirements including anti-microbial, blood cultures, and IV fluids among other tools of critical care and sepsis code with pathway. Moreover, healthcare professionals can conveniently move this physical device to treat sepsis patients.

Furthermore, the hospital has trained its staff to identify and treat sepsis patients using the sepsis cart and follow international guidelines and protocols.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr Rahul Pandit, chair, critical care, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, said, "Sepsis is a formidable challenge, but it is one that we can tackle effectively with the right information and a structured approach. This programme is a crucial step towards building awareness and competence in managing sepsis cases. We invite all healthcare professionals and concerned individuals to take the correct steps to combat this disease."

As per the hospital, the issue of sepsis could become the next big national health problem, if it is not handled correctly, it is said to be bigger than heart attacks.

Each hour's delay in medical intervention can increase the chances of fatality in sepsis patients by 7% as revealed by the hospital. According to the hospital authority, this move will significantly reduce the mortality rate in sepsis patients.

Sepsis, often referred to as a 'silent killer', is a critical medical condition that arises in response to infections and can affect anyone, regardless of age, sex, or health status. It's a major health concern in India.

Globally, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), sepsis is responsible for about 20% of all deaths. In India, the records state around 3 million annual cases and over 300,000 deaths.
