Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital Unveils 5,000-Bed Expansion Plan, Sets Stage for Global Entry with Kazakhstan OPD
The hospital is expanding with a new 300-bed cancer care hospital in Ahmedabad, which is expected to become the group's first new domestic facility under this expansion, with additional projects planned for Indore and New Delhi.
Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital has unveiled a large-scale expansion roadmap that will significantly increase its healthcare capacity through new facilities in India and overseas, marking its first international venture in Kazakhstan while planning 5,000 additional beds over the next two years.
As part of its international expansion, Lilavati Hospital will open a super-speciality outpatient department (OPD) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in early September 2026.
The centre will initially operate as a consultation and specialist referral facility without inpatient services.
Patients will have access to specialist consultations, second opinions, treatment planning and medical advice across oncology, liver and hepatobiliary sciences, kidney transplantation, cardiac sciences, neurology and neurosurgery, IVF and reproductive medicine, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, urology, endocrinology and diabetes, paediatrics and pulmonology.
The hospital said patients requiring routine care that can be delivered locally will be managed through collaborations with hospitals in Kazakhstan, with Lilavati specialists providing clinical guidance where required.
Cases requiring advanced procedures or complex surgeries will be referred to Mumbai through an established treatment pathway.
"Complex cases would have a structured pathway to access advanced care at Lilavati Hospital Mumbai, while Kazakhstan would serve as the first step towards a wider Central Asian presence." - Dr Ravindra Karanjekar, CEO, Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre
Alongside its overseas plans, Lilavati Hospital is expanding within India with a new 300-bed cancer care hospital in Ahmedabad, which is expected to become the group's first new domestic facility under this expansion.
Additional projects are planned for Indore and New Delhi.
The hospital has also indicated that it is exploring opportunities in countries including Uzbekistan, Oman, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka through a mix of greenfield projects, brownfield partnerships, and collaborations with local governments.
The hospital has not disclosed investment details, the structure of its international partnerships, or the total capital expenditure for the expansion. However, it confirmed that the planned growth is not backed by private equity funding.
