Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the move to boost healthcare diagnostics and treatment accuracy.
The Himachal Pradesh government has sanctioned INR 85 Cr for procuring and installing 3T MRI machines in three key medical colleges — IGMC Shimla, Tanda Medical College, and Nerchowk Medical College.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has recently announced the move to boost healthcare diagnostics and treatment accuracy.
“The 3T MRI machine is a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool, particularly useful for cases requiring precision and in-depth analysis. With the installation of these advanced MRI machines, diseases can be accurately diagnosed, facilitating better patient treatment,” said CM Sukhu.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. Sukhu revealed plans to invest INR 1,500 Cr to equip government health institutions with modern medical equipment shortly.
Due to geographical reasons, Himachal Pradesh faces significant challenges and inadequate healthcare services.
According to CM Sukhu, approximately 9.5 lakh residents seek medical treatment outside the state, resulting in an annual GDP loss of INR 1,350 Cr.
“Currently, inadequate healthcare services in the state force 9.5 lakh residents to seek treatment outside Himachal Pradesh, leading to a GDP loss of INR 1,350 crore,” the Chief Minister stated.
To address this issue, the state government is prioritizing installing advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities in medical colleges, community health centers (CHCs), and hospitals.
“Community Health Centers will be equipped with semi-automatic laboratories, ultrasound machines, and ICU facilities,” Sukhu added.
He also confirmed that all civil and zonal hospitals would soon feature fully automatic auto-analyzers, digital X-rays, ultrasound machines, and modular operation theatres.
The Chief Minister highlighted the health department's ongoing efforts to set up in-house diagnostic laboratories, which will ensure more accurate patient diagnoses and treatment.
“The health department has already initiated this work, as the establishment of in-house labs would ensure better treatment for patients and provide accurate diagnostic support to doctors,” he explained.
