The Government of Haryana has taken a groundbreaking step in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) by implementing an AI-driven solution in government-run health facilities across the state. Developed by the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI), the Comprehensive Loss to Follow-Up and Mortality Prediction (CLAMP-TB) solution is set to revolutionize TB treatment in the region.
The National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) staff in Haryana will now utilize the CLAMP-TB solution to identify and provide intensive care to high-risk patients during the crucial six to twelve months of TB treatment. By accurately predicting the likelihood of patients being lost to follow-up or facing mortality, CLAMP-TB enables early intervention and personalized treatments, thus significantly improving health outcomes and potentially saving many lives. To ensure the successful implementation of this innovative AI tool, Wadhwani AI conducted comprehensive training sessions for NTEP staff in key districts such as Gurugram, Bhiwani, Ambala, and Rohtak. The aim was to familiarize healthcare professionals with CLAMP-TB functionalities and integrate it seamlessly into their workflow. With 157 government health facilities across Haryana adopting this solution, nearly 12,000 high-risk TB patients will benefit from targeted treatments within the next 15 to 18 months.
Dr. Rajesh Raju, the State TB Officer of NTEP, Haryana, expressed his enthusiasm for the study of AI-based LFU/death prediction, highlighting the potential transformation in TB management and the significant improvement in patients' health outcomes.
On the day of the solution's launch, Dr. Sandeep Mishra, Program Manager at Wadhwani AI, emphasized the positive impact of CLAMP-TB on treatment success rates. The institute commits to continuous data review through the CLAMP portal, providing valuable feedback to NTEP staff to further optimize the solution's performance.
By combining artificial intelligence with healthcare expertise, Haryana is setting an example for other regions to follow in the battle against TB. The deployment of CLAMP-TB marks a major stride towards TB elimination and ensures a healthier future for Haryana's population.
