Gujarat CM Inaugurates Cancer Hospital in Patan; Free PET Scans for Ayushman Bharat Beneficiaries

The hospital will offer free Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans to Ayushman Bharat cardholders, while its radiotherapy services will be supported by a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine procured at an estimated cost of INR 22 crore.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the P.B. Patan Janata Cancer Hospital on November 1, 2026, bringing specialized cancer diagnostic and treatment services closer to residents of North Gujarat. The hospital will offer free Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans to Ayushman Bharat cardholders, while its radiotherapy services will be supported by a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine procured at an estimated cost of INR 22 crore.

Operated by the Jeevan Jyot Charitable Trust, the facility is expected to reduce the need for cancer patients from Patan and neighboring districts to travel to Ahmedabad for specialized care. The introduction of PET scan services will also address a diagnostic gap in North Gujarat, where the facility was previously unavailable.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Patel said that despite Patan being an important healthcare center in the region, access to specialized cancer treatment had remained limited. He said the new hospital would help patients access advanced services closer to their homes.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing burden of lifestyle-related conditions, including diabetes and hypertension, and called for greater attention to preventive healthcare, healthier diets, regular yoga and measures to address tobacco consumption and other addictions.

Hospital Reports More Than 15 Lakh Outpatient Consultations

Speaking at the event, Dr. Pramodbhai Patel, Managing Trustee of Jeevan Jyot Charitable Trust, shared the healthcare services delivered by the trust through Janata Hospital.

According to him, the hospital has recorded more than 15 lakh outpatient consultations and treated over 1.5 lakh inpatients. It has also performed more than one lakh surgeries.

Its diagnostic services include over 1.5 lakh CT scans, more than 50,000 MRI scans and over 15,000 angiographies. The hospital has also conducted more than 2,000 angioplasties.

Other specialized services introduced by the institution in North Gujarat include dialysis, intensive care, catheterization laboratory facilities and neurosurgery.

Plans for Super-Specialty Expansion

The trust is planning to expand its healthcare infrastructure with additional super-specialty services, including bone marrow and kidney transplantation, robotic surgery and cardiac surgery. These services are currently unavailable in North Gujarat, Dr. Patel said.

The inauguration ceremony also included a felicitation program recognizing donors who contributed to the establishment of the cancer hospital.
