GIMS-CMI Startup Raises $2 Mn Seed Funding in Medtech Breakthrough

The investment will be used to develop indigenous semiconductor chipsets and energy-harvesting technologies for clinical devices, supported by clinical validation and incubation inside the GIMS-CMI hospital innovation ecosystem.

A MedTech startup incubated at the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has raised USD 2 million (approximately ₹16.6 crore) in seed funding, marking a significant milestone for India’s emerging medical-technology ecosystem.

The round was led by Bluehill.VC, supported by a Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) grant from the Government of India. Established as the first government hospital-based medical Innovation hub in Uttar Pradesh, GIMS-CMI operates as a Section 8 entity under the Department of Medical Education.

The incubator provides clinical startup OPD clinics, structured mentorship, and direct validation pathways inside the public hospital to accelerate development in medical devices, AI, and wearable-health technologies.

The funded startup, Sophrosyne Technologies, focuses on building indigenous medical-grade semiconductor chipsets designed for next-generation wearable and Clinical Health Devices.

Representatives from CMI-GIMS said the incubator currently supports more than 40 active startups and runs India’s first OPD-based startup clinics within a government hospital.

They said the center collaborates with Stanford Biodesign, IIT Kanpur, IIT Mandi and national accelerators to build a scalable, clinically grounded innovation model for MedTech development across the country.
