With smart monitoring systems, digital platforms for patient engagement, and AI-enhanced diagnostics, hospitals are improving efficiency and ensuring timely, personalized care.
Hospitals across Kolkata are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms to transform clinical care and streamline administrative processes.
With a significant portion of services already digitized, several hospital chains aim to complete full-scale digital integration by the end of April, ushering in a new era of AI-driven healthcare delivery.
Charnock Hospital has introduced an "enhanced patient care system" that uses an AI-powered remote screening mechanism for continuous and contactless monitoring of patients.
Each bed is equipped with an Early Warning System (EWS), enabling healthcare professionals to track vital parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, SPO2, temperature, respiration, and ECG in real-time.
The system analyses trends and raises instant alerts to flag signs of clinical deterioration, allowing rapid response teams to intervene swiftly and prevent emergencies.
Dr Nishant Agarwal, head of emergency services at Charnock Hospital, reported that 60% of ward beds and cabins are now equipped with the AI-based monitoring system.
The hospital plans to expand coverage to all non-ICU beds soon. "This AI-powered alert system has significantly improved our emergency response time and patient outcomes," Agarwal said.
Woodlands Hospital is also making strides in digitization. The hospital is rolling out a fully integrated digital platform that includes AI-assisted real-time patient screening, online OPD slot bookings, and digital payment systems.
The initiative aims to eliminate long queues at counters and provide a seamless, paperless experience.
"We are on track to launch this system by the end of April," said the hospital's CEO, Dr. Rupali Barua, adding that the digitization drive would ensure more efficient service delivery.
Manipal Hospitals is deploying a wide array of AI-powered tools across its national network, including its Kolkata unit.
The hospital has implemented AI-integrated Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) in collaboration with Fujifilm to enhance diagnostic efficiency.
Additionally, Manipal pioneered India's first AI-powered nurse handover system using the Gemini AI platform, along with an AI-enabled ICU step-down system to manage patient care transitions more effectively.
COO Karthik Rajagopal noted that Manipal Hospitals has streamlined key administrative functions like admissions, outpatient scheduling, and discharge processes using its advanced Hospital Information System (HIS).
"We're committed to transforming every aspect of healthcare delivery through technology," he said.
As AI technologies continue to gain momentum across hospitals in Kolkata, the healthcare landscape is undergoing a major shift.
With smart monitoring systems, digital platforms for patient engagement, and AI-enhanced diagnostics, hospitals are not only improving efficiency but also ensuring timely, personalized care.
Experts believe this integration of AI and digitization will be critical in meeting the growing healthcare demands of urban populations while extending quality care to underserved regions.
