Responsible AI & Digital Public Infrastructure Key to Healthcare Transformation, Says NHA CEO

Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Authority, has recently said that responsible AI & Digital Public Infrastructure is key to Healthcare Transformation.

During a recent address, Dr Barnwal highlighted that the future of healthcare infrastructure extends beyond hospitals and medical equipment and requires connected physical and digital systems to support continuity of care, interoperability, efficient claims management, and seamless patient journeys.

Referring to initiatives such as SAHI and BODH, he underscored the importance of building trusted and inclusive AI systems supported by governance and validation frameworks.

Dr. Barnwal also stressed the need for collaboration across hospitals, healthcare providers, startups, insurers, and technology partners to create a connected and interoperable healthcare ecosystem in the country.

Concluding the address, he said India has the opportunity to simultaneously strengthen financial protection through PMJAY, digital public infrastructure through ABDM, and governance frameworks for responsible AI in healthcare, laying the foundation for the healthcare systems of Viksit Bharat 2047.
