BPL Medtech & AIIMS Delhi Partner to Advance AI-powered Mammography Technology Across India

Under the agreement, BPL Medical Technologies will develop the AI technology, which will be further integrated into mammography equipment, and scale it in remote parts of the country.

BPL Medical Technologies and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, have recently partnered to advance and support the development of AI-powered Mammography Technology in India.

As per reports, both parties have formalised an agreement for the transfer of an AI-powered mammography technology to support further development of the technology.

Under the agreement, BPL Medical Technologies will develop the AI technology, which will be further integrated within mammography equipment, and scale it in remote parts of the country.

The initiative brings together AIIMS Delhi’s academic research and inputs with BPL’s capabilities in medical equipment development, while expanding access to technology across the country, especially tier 2 and tier 3 regions.

The AI solution is designed to support radiologists in breast imaging, early intervention, and workflow management

Speaking on the collaboration, Dr. Nikhil Tandon, Director, AIIMS Delhi, said, “This technology transfer demonstrates how research generated within academic institutions can be translated into solutions that address real-world healthcare. I hope that this initiative would serve as the beginning of many more such developments emerging from AIIMS, reflecting the institute's continued emphasis on innovation, technology development and the responsible translation of biomedical research into clinical applications.”

The AI model has been developed to support the interpretation of mammography examinations, with the broader objective of supporting radiologists, particularly where expert breast imaging specialists are limited.

Commenting on the collaboration, Ajay Jindal, Chief Financial Officer, BPL Medical Technologies, said, “BPL MedTech and AIIMS Delhi are collaborating to take this AI innovation further by adapting it for mammography equipment and making it accessible even in remote areas. We see this as an important milestone in our work to collaborate with academia to create access to practical medical technologies across the country.”

The collaboration aims to strengthen the use of AI in breast imaging and advance the technology for clinical application.
