Bajaj Group Expands into the Healthcare Sector with Bajaj Integrated Health Systems, Announces INR 2,500 Cr Investment
The initial rollout will begin in Pune, where the group plans to establish a flagship ecosystem comprising a large hospital, along with multiple day-care and outpatient facilities, by the end of the year.
The Bajaj Group has launched a new entity, Bajaj Integrated Health Systems (BIHS), aimed at diversifying its footprint across India’s healthcare system.
The group has committed an initial investment of INR 2000-2500 crore.
The new venture seeks to establish a comprehensive, nationwide healthcare network built around a “continuum of care” model that will include multispecialty hospitals, neighbourhood clinics, ambulatory surgery centres, and home-based care services.
The initial rollout will begin in Pune, where the group plans to establish a flagship ecosystem comprising a large hospital, along with multiple day-care and outpatient facilities, by the end of the year.
In addition, Mumbai is slated for rollout within the next three to four years, followed by plans to further expand across major metro cities.
Reportedly, the investment will be funded through internal accruals and promoter capital, with industry estimates suggesting the total outlay could scale up to INR 6,000–7,000 crore over the next four to five years as the network expands.
In parallel, the group also plans to leverage synergies with its insurance businesses, including Bajaj General Insurance, to design products tailored for outpatient and day-care treatment segments that are currently underpenetrated in India's insurance ecosystem.
According to Bajaj, the new healthcare model will direct patients through the most appropriate setting, home care, clinic, day surgery, or hospital, based on their clinical need, rather than maximizing hospital occupancy.
Commenting on the new strategy, Nirav Bajaj, MD & CEO of BIHS, said, “Traditionally, healthcare chains have focused on the hospital. What we are building is actually a continuum of care.”
“We believe that 70-80% of healthcare needs can be treated outside of the hospital. This is an area which is financially beneficial to patients, and where there is less infection, leading to outcomes,” he added.
