AI-Generated Clinical Notes: Can Automated Documentation Reduce Burnout?
Clinical documentation has become one of the biggest drivers of physician burnout across the world. Various international studies show that doctors often spend a very large share of their workday inside electronic medical records (EMRs), rather than with patients. Many clinicians also report adding two to three extra hours of after-hours charting daily, just to keep up with visit notes, discharge summaries, and compliance requirements.
As per global reports tracking the health workforce, more than half of physicians now report at least one symptom of burnout, with administrative overload cited as a primary cause. In India, where outpatient departments (OPDs) are often high-volume and time-pressed, clinicians frequently describe spending a significant portion of each consultation updating notes and entering data, especially in facilities that have recently transitioned from paper to digital systems.
