Vedanta Plans 1,000-Bed Hospital to Expand Healthcare Access in Western Odisha

The proposed 1,000-bed hospital in western Odisha would add a larger tertiary and super-speciality healthcare facility to Vedanta’s existing healthcare activities.

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal has proposed a 1,000-bed hospital in western Odisha during a meeting with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with the project aimed at expanding access to specialised healthcare in the region.

The proposed facility could add capacity for specialised and super-speciality care in western Odisha, potentially reducing the need for patients to travel to larger cities for advanced treatment.

Vedanta already has a healthcare presence in Odisha through the Vedanta Hospital in Kalahandi, which provides preventive and curative healthcare services to communities in the region.

The company also uses mobile health units to take doctors, medicines and basic healthcare services to people in villages that face difficulties accessing fixed healthcare facilities.

Beyond Odisha, Vedanta’s healthcare programmes include community health camps, mobile medical units, telemedicine and initiatives focused on maternal and child health.

According to the company, 37 healthcare initiatives implemented by Vedanta and its business units benefited more than 38 lakh people during FY25.

The group has also established the BALCO Medical Centre in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, providing cancer diagnosis and treatment services for patients across Central India.

Mobile cancer screening vans are used to extend early detection services to smaller towns and rural communities.

The proposed 1,000-bed hospital in western Odisha would therefore add a larger tertiary and super-speciality healthcare facility to Vedanta’s existing healthcare activities.

The discussions with Chief Minister Majhi in Bhubaneswar also covered Vedanta’s broader investment plans in Odisha and cooperation with the state government. The company has proposed investments worth around INR 1 lakh Cr across the state.

Details on the hospital’s location, investment, construction timeline, and proposed medical specialities have not yet been disclosed.
