Vadamalayan Hospital Unveils SSI Mantra Advanced Surgical Robot in Madurai
The Made-in-India SSI Mantra system is intended to support procedures with services planned for its Madurai and Dindigul centres.
Vadamalayan Hospital has introduced the SSI Mantra surgical robotic system at its Madurai facility, bringing robotic-assisted surgical technology to its clinical services.
Developed by SS Innovations International, the Made-in-India SSI Mantra system is intended to support procedures with services planned for its Madurai and Dindigul centres.
According to the hospital, the surgical system will be deployed across a range of specialities including cardiothoracic surgery, urology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal surgery, oncology and general surgery.
Speaking at launch, Vadamalayan Hospital Chairman and Managing Director V. Pugalagiri said, “For nearly seven decades, the hospital had been at the forefront of adapting cutting-edge medical technology. It is truly the future of surgery with a human touch.”
The platform incorporates robotic instruments and a three-dimensional magnified visualisation system to assist surgeons during the procedure.
The Robotic-assisted surgical system is designed to enhance surgical capabilities by allowing surgeons to control specialised instruments from a console while viewing the operative field through an imaging system.
By enabling remote surgical capabilities and enhanced instrument dexterity, the system is expected to provide numerous benefits, including improved instrument precision, smaller incisions, and reduced blood loss.
It also seeks to reduce postoperative pain, accelerate recovery, and shorten hospital stays in selected cases, depending on the procedure and clinical circumstances.
Highlighting the surgical platform's capabilities, Srinivasa Reddy, Vice-President of SS Innovations, stated that the robot offers surgeons advantages such as dexterity, precision, 3D magnified vision, minimal blood loss, smaller incisions, faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, and the tech facility to monitor surgery from anywhere in India and abroad.
He also urged that the robotic machine treatment method be integrated into the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme of the Tamil Nadu State government.
In an earlier development, India’s leading medtech company, SS Innovations International, secured regulatory approvals for its flagship Made-in-India Robotic Surgical System, SSi Mantra, in Indonesia and the Philippines, expanding its reach of remote robotic-assisted surgery in Southeast Asia.
