ShardaCare Healthcity Launches Dedicated Stroke Clinic with Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program
The initiative aims to provide multidisciplinary care involving neurologists, psychologists, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation specialists for holistic treatment and faster recovery.
On World Stroke Day, ShardaCare Healthcity launched a dedicated Stroke Clinic and Comprehensive Stroke Rehabilitation Program to strengthen recovery and improve long-term outcomes for stroke survivors.
The initiative aims to provide multidisciplinary care involving neurologists, psychologists, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation specialists for holistic treatment and faster recovery.
The program is being led by Dr. Atampreet Singh, Senior Director & Head, Neurology, ShardaCare Healthcity, and supported by a team of rehabilitation experts. The hospital also conducted an awareness seminar with more than 25 doctors from across the city to promote understanding around stroke diagnosis, prevention, and post-treatment care.
India records one brain stroke every 20 seconds, accounting for over 18 lakh new cases annually, making it a leading cause of death and disability. Despite this, awareness around stroke prevention and timely treatment remains low. The new Stroke Clinic will operate Monday to Friday, 2 PM to 5 PM, and offer 24×7 emergency care to ensure coordinated patient management.
Highlighting the growing stroke burden, Dr. Atampreet Singh said, “A brain stroke can strike anyone — regardless of age, gender, education, or economic background. In stroke, time is the golden period — treatment within four and a half hours can significantly improve outcomes. Every second, millions of neurons are lost, so reaching a hospital quickly is critical.”
He added, “Over the past 15–20 years, we have seen a sharp rise in strokes among younger individuals due to sedentary lifestyles, obesity, smoking, and alcohol use. Better diagnostics and greater awareness have also led to earlier detection. In India, ischemic stroke is the most common type, yet only about 1% of eligible patients receive IV thrombolysis — a clot-busting injection effective within the 4.5-hour window.”
Discussing rehabilitation, Dr. Dharam Pandey, Director, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, said, “Stroke management doesn’t end with emergency treatment — it continues through structured rehabilitation and holistic recovery. Our program integrates conventional therapy with robotics-assisted rehabilitation, inertial strengthening systems, and virtual reality-based gamified training to enhance patient engagement and motor recovery.”
He added that sensor-based exercise systems, 3D motion analysis, and Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) are part of the program, offering personalized therapy and measurable outcomes.
Commenting on the initiative, Rishabh Gupta, Managing Director, ShardaCare Healthcity, said, “We view stroke recovery as a journey that extends beyond emergency care. Our new Stroke Clinic and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program embody our commitment to advanced, patient-centric, and technology-enabled recovery.”
The integrated model brings together neurophysiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and orthotists under one roof to deliver intensive, goal-oriented rehabilitation for stroke survivors.
