RIMS Ranchi Rolls Out e-Sushrut App, Sets Stage for Robotic Surgery & Digital Hospital Transformation

With the launch of the e-Sushrut App, RIMS Ranchi has become the first government hospital in Jharkhand to implement a comprehensive digital hospital management system under Mukhyamantri Digital Health Yojana.
Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Ranchi has taken a major step towards digital healthcare by launching the e-Sushrut App, allowing patients to book OPD appointments online, access diagnostic reports and receive e-prescriptions through their smartphones.
The institute has also approved the introduction of robotic surgery and multiple infrastructure upgrades as part of its broader healthcare modernisation plan.
The digital transformation at RIMS Ranchi has been driven under the Mukhyamantri Digital Health Yojana, launched by the Jharkhand government to strengthen public healthcare through technology.
The scheme, approved with an outlay of around INR 300 Cr, aims to improve access to healthcare services, streamline hospital operations and enhance patient experience across government health facilities.
With the launch of the e-Sushrut App, RIMS Ranchi has become the first government hospital in Jharkhand to implement a comprehensive digital hospital management system under the programme.
Jharkhand Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari said, "Our priority is to place RIMS among the country's best govt medical institutions. There will be no compromise on patient care, quality of treatment or medical education. Every decision was taken keeping public interest and future healthcare needs in mind.”
The mobile platform enables patients to register using their mobile numbers, create digital health accounts, book outpatient department (OPD) appointments from home, pay an INR 10 consultation fee online, access laboratory reports and receive electronic prescriptions after consulting doctors.
Alongside the e-Sushrut App launch, the minister inaugurated a digital mammography unit, a central laboratory, and an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Operation Theatre.
The governing council of RIMS Ranchi has also approved the phased introduction of robotic surgery, signalling another significant technology upgrade for the institute.
A dedicated robotic surgery operation theatre will be established, with the programme initially focusing on general surgery before expanding to other specialities after evaluating clinical outcomes.
RIMS Director Dr Dipendra Kumar Sinha said, "A dedicated operation theatre will be developed for robotic surgeries. We will begin by piloting robotic procedures in general surgery and gradually expand the facility to other specialities after evaluating the outcomes."
The governing council has further approved procurement of 200 ventilators, installation of smart classrooms, reconstruction of the orthopaedic ward, establishment of a modern help desk, strengthening of the blood bank, faster procurement of a radiotherapy machine, expansion of newborn genetic screening facilities, creation of a rehabilitation centre, and exploration of a public-private partnership model for stem cell preservation.
