The portal is intended to reduce delays and inconvenience faced by patients in accessing healthcare services, especially those living outside the Aizawl district.

The Mizoram government has introduced an online medical referral system under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), aimed at streamlining the process for government employees seeking treatment outside the state.

The newly developed digital platform was inaugurated by the Health Minister Lalrinpuii at the SAD Conference Hall in Aizawl.

Speaking at the launch, the minister said the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening healthcare governance and improving public access to medical services through digital technology.

She noted the importance of efficient implementation, particularly in emergency referral cases, and urged medical officers and health officials to ensure the system is used effectively.

''The Online Medical Referral System must be implemented sincerely and efficiently so that it serves its intended purpose,'' she said.

The minister also highlighted the growing adoption of digital healthcare services in the state, noting that more than 46,000 families have already registered under the MUHCS online registration system.

As per reports, the app is developed by the Directorate of Hospital and Medical Education (DHME) in collaboration with the Mizoram State e-Governance Society (MSeGS).

The portal is intended to reduce delays and inconvenience faced by patients in accessing healthcare services, especially those living outside the Aizawl district.

Under the new system, District Screening Committees have been set up in all district hospitals to evaluate cases locally. Recommendations will be coordinated with referral boards via video conferencing, which is expected to significantly reduce waiting times.

This enables applicants to seek provisional referral permission online through the portal 'medicalreferralmizoram.in, officials said.

As per the officials, the new digital portal is designed for government employees, enabling them to upload forwarding letters and medical board documents directly through the portal.

With the provisional permission, they will have to report to the Mizoram State Health Care Society (MSHCS).

The latest initiative is built on the state’s broader efforts to digitise its healthcare system.

In a recent development, the Lunglei District Administration in Mizoram has launched a new AI-powered mobile Health App aimed at digitising healthcare and improving access to health across the district.

The app is named “LushaAI Healthy Lunglei” and features a chatbot in the Mizo Language, intended to enable users with OPD bookings and respond to queries in the Mizo language.
