The healthcare major currently operates multi-speciality hospitals in six cities including Gurugram, Ranchi, Indore, Patna, Lucknow and its newest facility in Noida.

Medanta Group is pressing ahead with an aggressive expansion plan backed by a ₹4,500-crore capital expenditure outlay and a pipeline of new hospitals across key Indian cities, Group CEO Pankaj Sahni has said.

The healthcare major currently operates multi-speciality hospitals in six cities including Gurugram, Ranchi, Indore, Patna, Lucknow and its newest facility in Noida.

According to Sahni, all these units have delivered strong financial performance while helping raise the standard of clinical care in their respective regions.

Building on this momentum, Medanta has announced two upcoming hospitals in Delhi, as well as new facilities in Mumbai, Guwahati and Varanasi. Sahni said the group’s strategy is to replicate its high-quality, tertiary care model not only in metro markets but also in emerging cities where advanced care remains under-served.

“There were concerns initially about whether we would succeed in markets like Lucknow and Patna,” he noted, adding that the performance of these centres has exceeded expectations and is now prompting competitors to follow Medanta into similar geographies.

Sahni stressed that the company expects to execute its current and planned projects without raising additional capital. He pointed to Medanta’s track record over the past 15 years, where returns from its flagship facility have enabled the group to systematically build out its six existing units.

“The returns from these six hospitals will support our future growth as well,” he said. “We have a healthy balance sheet, healthy returns and a strong return on capital, and we see no reason for this to change in the short to medium term.”
