As part of the transaction, Labcorp will also serve as the referral laboratory for NMHS’s seven hospitals and affiliated clinic laboratories.
Labcorp, a provider of clinical and diagnostic laboratory services, has completed the acquisition of North Mississippi Health Services’ (NMHS) ambulatory outreach laboratory business.
As part of the transaction, Labcorp will also serve as the referral laboratory for NMHS’s seven hospitals and affiliated clinic laboratories.
The acquisition aims to ensure continuity of laboratory services for NMHS patients and physicians while expanding access to Labcorp’s testing infrastructure. By mid-year, Labcorp will open three new patient service centers in Tupelo, West Point, and Amory to improve service availability across the region.
Commenting on the development, Lenny Monsour, senior vice president of Labcorp’s Southeast Division, said, “Labcorp is committed to continuing the longstanding tradition of high-quality laboratory and healthcare services that North Mississippi Health Services’ patients have come to expect and deserve while increasing access to these important services – especially for those living in rural communities. This acquisition allows us to leverage the strengths of both organizations to impact healthcare for communities in North Mississippi.”
According to NMHS, the health system will continue operating laboratories at each hospital and clinic location. The collaboration with Labcorp will support NMHS’s broader access and operational transformation goals.
“North Mississippi Health Services will continue to operate laboratories in each of our hospitals and clinics with this partnership helping to address key pieces of our strategy, including improving access, evolving how we ‘do the work’ and creating alternative revenue sources,” said Shane Spees, NMHS president and CEO.
Labcorp and NMHS stated that implementation efforts have focused on maintaining service continuity for patients, physicians, hospitals, and laboratory clients. Both organizations noted that the collaboration is part of a coordinated transition strategy.
The development follows other recent agreements by Labcorp with regional health systems to increase diagnostic capacity and expand testing access in local markets.
