Imphal West Moves Closer to Full e-Treatment Services as Manipur Accelerates Digital Healthcare Rollout

The announcement follows Manipur's efforts to establish Imphal West as its model district for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

Imphal West has moved closer to becoming Manipur's first district to offer fully integrated e-treatment services under the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) system, as the state continues expanding its digital healthcare infrastructure to improve access, continuity of care and digital health record management.

The announcement follows Manipur's efforts to establish Imphal West as its model district for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

In June 2026, the district was selected as the state's pilot district to strengthen digital healthcare adoption by expanding registrations under the Health Facility Registry (HFR), Health Professional Registry (HPR) and ABHA, while bringing healthcare providers onto a common digital platform.

The initiative forms part of the National Digital Health Mission's broader vision of creating interoperable healthcare systems that allow patients to securely access and share their medical records across participating facilities.

Director of Health Services Dr Nongthombam Hemantakumar Singh said healthcare is evolving rapidly alongside artificial intelligence and digital technologies, and the Directorate of Health Services is working to ensure that Manipur keeps pace with these developments through stronger digital healthcare infrastructure.

He said all government hospitals in Imphal West will soon provide comprehensive e-treatment services under the ABHA framework, allowing patients to benefit from connected digital health records and improved continuity of care.

Referring to emerging technologies, Hemantakumar said artificial intelligence and robotic-assisted treatment have the potential to strengthen healthcare delivery. However, he stressed that technology should complement, rather than replace, healthcare professionals.

"Technology cannot replace trained medical professionals," he said, adding that empathy, compassion and the human touch remain essential elements of quality healthcare.

He also highlighted the complementary roles of public and private healthcare providers. While government hospitals continue to manage high patient volumes despite manpower and resource constraints, he said private hospitals help expand access to specialised services and strengthen the overall healthcare ecosystem.

Hemantakumar further noted that the government is increasing access to private healthcare for economically weaker sections by empanelling private hospitals under various public health insurance schemes.
