As per reports, the government has spent INR 1,110 crore on healthcare infrastructure over the last two years.
In a major push to strengthen rural healthcare access and advanced diagnostics, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced to invest around INR 3,000 crore in modern healthcare infrastructure.
The announcement was made during a Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Limited (HPMSCL) meeting chaired by Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Health and Family Welfare Minister of Himachal.
Along with medical equipment, the funds will also be utilized to procure advanced medical equipment across government health institutions.
During the meeting, the Health Minister stated the state's model healthcare centers, known as Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans, will soon be equipped with advanced X-ray and ultrasound machines.
According to the Health Minister, the government is establishing 70 Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans, with one in each Assembly constituency and two each in the Lahaul Spiti and Bharmaur Assembly constituencies.
The latest installations are expected to reduce significant financial and physical burden on rural residents and patients who currently have to travel long distances to access X-ray and ultrasound facilities.
Highlighting the state government’s healthcare vision, Dr. Shandil said, "Our primary focus under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's leadership is delivering quality, modernized healthcare directly to people's doorsteps. We are systematically phasing out medical infrastructure and machinery that are 15 to 20 years old, replacing them with state-of-the-art technological alternatives."
To support this healthcare modernisation, the state government has already earmarked nearly INR 3,000 crore for modern healthcare facilities, including infrastructure upgrade and procurement of advanced medical equipment, Shandil added.
He noted that the government has spent INR 1,110 crore on healthcare infrastructure over the last two years.
The Health Minister also highlighted that HPMSCL plays a crucial role in ensuring quality procurement of medicines and machines in the health sector.
He further directed the officers to expedite the procurement process while ensuring transparency.
In addition, the meeting also focused on discussion regarding the strengthening of diagnostic services and pacing up the procurement of advanced medicines and drugs, baby care kits, ICTC testing vehicles, CT Scan services, medical consumables and surgical items, blood component separator units, and screening of students' eyes in schools and providing free spectacles.
Furthermore, the Health Minister directed the officers to ensure the timely and seamless purchase of world-class medical equipment, including advanced laparoscopic surgery sets, PET Scan machines, blood component separator units, full room digital radiography, high-resolution colour doppler ultrasound units, digital mammography, and ECG machines for Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans.
