Google Launches Screenless Fitbit Air to Expand AI-Powered Health Coaching

The Screenless Fitbit Air includes sensors for continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, sleep analysis, heart rhythm monitoring and AFib alerts.

Google has unveiled the Screenless Fitbit Air, a display-free fitness tracker designed to work alongside Google Health Coach and deliver continuous health monitoring, combining AI-powered wellness guidance and advanced health sensors.

Positioned as Google’s most lightweight tracker so far, the Screenless Fitbit Air includes sensors for continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, sleep analysis, heart rhythm monitoring and AFib alerts.

The wearable functions entirely through the Google Health app on Android and iOS, where users can access insights, track workouts and receive AI-generated recommendations from Google Health Coach.

Google said workout recognition improves over time based on user behaviour. Users can also manually log activities or upload photos of treadmill displays, cardio equipment or gym whiteboards for automatic workout interpretation.

Moreover, Google stated, “Fitbit Air is our smallest tracker yet — a proactive wellness partner that uses high-fidelity sensor technology in a tiny, discreet pebble that enables advanced health and fitness tracking.”

Google also said the device was created to help people “stay notification-free” while still accessing deeper wellness insights when needed.

Over the last year, major technology companies have increasingly explored AI-powered wellness tools capable of interpreting biometric data, suggesting personalized routines and automating activity tracking.

Reports have also indicated that Apple has slowed plans for a standalone AI health coach while gradually integrating similar capabilities into its Health ecosystem.
