Elekta Evo integrates online and offline adaptive capabilities into a single platform, enabling clinicians to deliver highly precise radiation therapy

In a move to enhance adoption of personalised radiation therapy for cancer patients, Manipal Hospital, Yelahanka has become the first healthcare institution in India to install Elekta Evo, the company's AI-enhanced adaptive CT-Linac platform.

Elekta Evo integrates online and offline adaptive capabilities into a single platform, enabling clinicians to deliver highly precise radiation therapy across a wide range of cancer indications while improving workflow efficiency and treatment accuracy.

The device is designed to enable clinicians to deliver Online Adaptive Radiotherapy (oART), allowing radiation treatment plans to be adjusted in real time based on changes in a patient's anatomy, thereby improving treatment precision, helping optimise tumour targeting while minimising radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.

The platform delivers these capabilities through two core technologies, including the Iris high-definition AI-enhanced imaging system designed to provide detailed visualisation of tumours and surrounding soft tissue structures, supporting improved treatment accuracy.

Meanwhile, Elekta ONE Online software is intended to streamline clinical workflows through AI-assisted automatic contouring, distributed treatment planning, and rapid dose calculation.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India records an estimated 1.46 million new cancer cases annually, underscoring the growing need for advanced radiation technologies capable of delivering more precise and personalised treatment.

The integration of Elekta Evo is expected to strengthen Manipal Hospital’s radiation oncology capabilities.

By embedding adaptive radiotherapy into everyday clinical workflows, the platform enables clinicians to personalise treatment in response to anatomical changes throughout a patient's care journey.

This agility is expected to support informed decision-making without compromising operational efficiency or technical precision while streamlining clinical workflows.

As per reports, the hospital has already begun using the platform in clinical practice, successfully treating its first patient with locally advanced rectal cancer using online adaptive radiotherapy.

According to the hospital, the patient completed neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy with minimal radiation-related side effects, demonstrating the potential of daily adaptive treatment to improve tumour targeting while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.

Clinicians are currently leveraging the system to treat cervical, rectal, and prostate cancers, with patients exhibiting high treatment tolerance and promising early outcomes.

The installation was also marked by the formalization of a strategic partnership between Manipal Health Enterprises and Elekta.

The collaboration agreement was signed by Deepak Venugopalan, Regional Chief Operating Officer, South & East Cluster, Manipal Health Enterprises Limited, and Feras Al Hasan, Head of Region, TIMEA, Elekta.

Commenting on the latest initiative, Feras Al Hasan, Head of Region, TIMEA at Elekta, stated the installation marks an important step in expanding access to adaptive radiation therapy in India.

"By combining AI-enhanced imaging with online adaptive capabilities on a highly versatile CT-Linac platform, Evo enables clinicians to make more informed treatment decisions throughout a patient's care journey," he added.
