Breast Cancer Care Beyond Awareness: Where Digital Health & AI Can Make a Difference
By - Dr. Nisha Hariharan, Consultant, Breast Cancer Specialist and Oncoplastic Surgeon, Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad.
For years, the breast cancer conversation in India has rightly focused on awareness. Women are encouraged to recognise symptoms and participate in screening when it is available. However, awareness is only the first step in our fight against breast cancer.
A less visible, but equally important, challenge begins after a woman enters the healthcare system. After noticing a lump, she needs to navigate several steps, including clinical examination, imaging, biopsy, pathology, specialist consultation, and treatment. The breast cancer journey is therefore not defined by a single encounter with a doctor, but by a series of decisions and interactions across the care pathway. What happens next, and whether each step connects effectively to the next, is of paramount importance.
