Amgen Announces Plans to Set Up Science & Innovation Centre in Genome Valley Hyderabad

By integrating advanced scientific capabilities with data and digital innovation, the facility seeks to accelerate the discovery and development of innovative medicines.

US-based Amgen has announced plans to open a new Science and Innovation Centre at Genome Valley in Hyderabad aimed at expanding its research and scientific capabilities and strengthening its footprint in India.

The new center is expected to become operational in 2027 and will join Amgen’s existing global network of seven research laboratories.

By integrating advanced scientific capabilities with data and digital innovation, the facility seeks to accelerate the discovery and development of innovative medicines.

It will bring together scientists and technologists working across discovery chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and precision medicine, while collaborating closely with Amgen’s research sites globally.

Commenting on the latest initiative, Jay Bradner, M.D., Executive Vice President of Research and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Data at Amgen, said, “The new center in Genome Valley expands the way we integrate experimental science with data and technology across our global research capabilities and complements our strong U.S.-based Research and Development footprint. By connecting these capabilities, we can learn faster and translate those insights into innovative medicines for patients.”

Sharing his thoughts, Som Chattopadhyay, Senior Vice President of Global Business Solutions and National Executive at Amgen, said, “This new center reflects Amgen’s commitment to advancing scientific excellence, and India will be an important part of our global R&D network. By expanding Amgen’s global research capabilities through its Hyderabad site, we are enabling deep scientific collaboration and look forward to participating in the local innovation ecosystem.”

As part of the initiative, an MoU was signed between Amgen India and the Government of Telangana for establishing the advanced Science & Innovation Centre at Genome Valley - Hyderabad's Life Sciences District in the presence of D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for Information Technology, Government of Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion, D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, Government of Telangana, said, “Amgen’s decision to establish its Science and Innovation Center in Genome Valley reflects Hyderabad’s growing role as a global hub for high-value research, bringing together scientific talent, technology and industry at scale. Our ambition is to make Hyderabad a place where the next generation of medicines and therapies can be discovered, developed and taken to the world.”

According to officials, the new facility is expected to further strengthen Telangana’s position as a global life science and pharma hub.
