Ambient AI, Digital Twins & Intelligent Automation: Technologies Reshaping Healthcare

Healthcare is moving beyond digitising medical records towards using data and artificial intelligence to make care more connected, predictive and efficient. Three technologies are contributing to this shift: ambient AI, which can capture clinical conversations and reduce documentation work; digital twins, which use data to simulate health conditions or treatment scenarios; and intelligent automation, which helps coordinate routine clinical and administrative processes. While each addresses a different challenge, their combined potential lies in helping healthcare professionals make better-informed decisions while reducing the operational burden on health systems.

India’s policy direction reflects the growing emphasis on responsible AI in healthcare. Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda described India's Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (SAHI) as a framework for AI that is “ethical, transparent, accountable, and people-centric.” Launched alongside the Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI (BODH), the initiative reflects a growing recognition that healthcare innovation must be supported by reliable data, appropriate safeguards and evidence of real-world performance.
