University Hospital, NJ, Appoints Mr. Inderpal Kohli as Chief Information Officer

Mr. Kohli is a healthcare technology executive with over 25 years of experience leading enterprise IT, digital transformation, Epic optimization, data platforms, and cybersecurity across complex healthcare organizations

Newark-based University Hospital has appointed Inderpal Kohli as Chief Information Officer, adding a seasoned healthcare IT executive with extensive experience in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology operations.

The hospital announced the leadership appointment, highlighting Kohli’s background in driving innovation and improving clinical and operational performance across complex healthcare organizations.

Mr. Kohli joins University Hospital after serving as Chief Technology Officer at Healthix, where he led the organization’s transition from a traditional health information exchange platform to an AI-enabled data intelligence infrastructure. His work included advancing cloud-based data systems, interoperability initiatives, and machine learning-driven analytics capabilities.

Prior to Healthix, Mr. Kohli spent four years as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Englewood Health, overseeing a $50 million IT portfolio supporting a 300-bed hospital, more than 100 ambulatory sites, and a large physician network.

During his tenure, Englewood Health consolidated more than 100 care locations onto a unified Epic electronic health record platform. The organization also achieved Epic Gold Star Level 8 recognition and CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Level 9 status for three consecutive years.

Mr. Kohli additionally led the deployment of Epic-integrated ambient AI and clinical documentation tools that reduced physician after-hours documentation workload, according to his professional profile. Other initiatives included modernization of cybersecurity infrastructure, implementation of AI-driven security operations, expansion of digital patient engagement capabilities, and deployment of enterprise cloud imaging systems.

Beyond his executive leadership roles, Mr. Kohli is also a valued member of the DHN Leadership Council, a prominent network of industry leaders shaping the next generation of healthcare innovation and digital strategy.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Kohli held senior IT leadership roles at Hospital for Special Surgery and Columbia University Medical Center, where he focused on healthcare technology modernization and enterprise clinical systems.

He also served as adjunct faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College, teaching healthcare informatics and project management courses for graduate students.

University Hospital said Mr. Kohli’s experience spans AI innovation, enterprise cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, interoperability, and digital care transformation initiatives aimed at improving both provider and patient experience.
