Thane’s 900-Bed Civil Hospital Nears Launch with Advanced Medical Technologies

The 10-storey hospital has been structured into three major wings, including a 500-bed general hospital, a 200-bed women’s hospital, and a 200-bed referral unit for super-speciality care.

Thane is set to significantly enhance its public healthcare capacity with the upcoming launch of a 900-bed civil hospital in Tembhi Naka. Designed as a modern healthcare hub, featuring advanced medical technologies and emergency air ambulance access, the facility is expected to be operational within three to four months, bringing improved access to specialized care.

Rapid urbanization in Thane and nearby districts like Palghar and Raigad has increased the demand for accessible, high-quality healthcare, often pushing patients toward Mumbai for advanced treatment. This new civil hospital aims to bridge that gap by decentralizing tertiary care services.

The 10-storey hospital has been structured into three major wings, including a 500-bed general hospital, a 200-bed women’s hospital, and a 200-bed referral unit for super-speciality care.

It is equipped with advanced medical technologies such as MRI and CT scan systems, along with comprehensive oncology services including chemotherapy and radiotherapy units. Critical care infrastructure will include ICU, NICU, and SNCU facilities, strengthening maternal and neonatal healthcare delivery.

A defining feature of the hospital is its rooftop helipad, which will support air ambulance services and significantly reduce emergency response times for critical cases. The facility will also house a dedicated cath lab for cardiac care and specialized pediatric services, including dialysis.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the hospital’s impact, stating, “The new Thane Civil Hospital will be a ‘vardan’ (boon) for common people.”

Officials have noted that the integration of advanced medical equipment and modern infrastructure is intended to make high-quality treatment more accessible to ordinary citizens.

According to Thane District Civil Surgeon Dr Kailas Pawar, while the main construction has been completed, final steps such as the installation of medical equipment and connection to a dedicated 8-megawatt underground power line are in progress.

Once testing and staffing are finalized, the hospital is expected to be inaugurated shortly.

By expanding capacity and introducing specialized services closer to home, the Thane Civil Hospital is poised to become a critical healthcare node for the region.
