Max Healthcare Plans Major Capacity Expansion, Targets 10,000 Beds

The company has already launched a 300-bed facility in Mumbai, another 200-bed unit at Mohali in Punjab, with further plans for a 500-bed addition in Gurgaon over the next 6-7 months.

Max Healthcare Institute is reportedly accelerating its expansion strategy, aiming to boost bed capacity and support its vision of scaling medical tourism in India.

The healthcare chain is targeting a total capacity of 10,000 beds over the next three to four years.

As per reports, the expansion initiative is backed by an investment of around INR 4000-5000 crore, which will be funded entirely through internal accruals.

The company had already committed to investing INR 6,000 crore by 2028 to add 3,700 beds across key locations in India.

It has recently opened a newly built 400-bed tower at its Max Smart Specialty Hospital, Saket, in the Capital.

Commenting on the new facility, Chairman and Managing Director of Max Healthcare, Abhay Soi, said, "This is a state-of-the-art facility, with new generation beds for aspirational India, and these will host the best of Indian clinical talent and technology aimed at global medical tourism."

The company stated that the new tower houses over 120 critical care beds, 10 modular operating theatres, and advanced cath labs, enabling high-acuity care across disciplines such as cardiac, oncology, renal, and neurosciences, as well as gastroenterology, paediatrics, robotic surgery, and organ transplants.

In addition, as part of the ongoing expansion plan, the company has already launched a 300-bed facility in Mumbai, another 200-bed unit at Mohali in Punjab, with further plans for a 500-bed addition in Gurgaon over the next 6-7 months, Soi stated.

Highlighting the pace of bed capacity expansion, Chairman Soi said, "Last year we have 5,200 beds, we will be going close to 6,700 beds before the end of the current financial year."

Soi further added, "The new facilities are aimed at both aspirational India as well as global medical tourism, and we are increasing our capacity to 10,000 beds over the next 3-4 years."

Underscoring the role of international patients, Soi said, "We get patients from 145 countries right now. It is a business which is growing at 25 per cent per year for us."

Emphasizing the broader vision behind the expansion strategy, he said, "All the new generation facilities will be catering to and will be spearheading India's desire to be a global medical tourism hub."

Reflecting his thoughts on funding strategy, Chairman Soi said, “We are looking at INR 4, 000 crore to INR 5,000 crore over the next few years, but this will be entirely funded through internal accruals."

Furthermore, he highlighted that Max Healthcare's facilities provide the infrastructure to enable clinical excellence and stated that, "Our Indian clinical talent is the best. What you need to do is support it with the best-in-class infrastructure and technology, and that is exactly what we are doing."

The latest development follows the company’s earlier announcement to expand its footprint across India with an investment of INR 5000 crore, which included investments in both greenfield and brownfield projects, with a focus on expanding into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to improve healthcare access in underserved regions.
